How They Work

Function & Usage:
Glow straws may come in various lengths and usually consist of clear straw with a glowstick capsule fixed inside. When liquid is sipped through the straw, the capsule slides up in tandem (and then falls back down in between sips). This creates a mesmerizing visual effect of light shooting up the straw. For this reason, straws of this type are sometimes referred to as “glow motion straws”.

As a result, glow straws are commonly used at parties or as a novelty item. For examples of their use, follow the “Videos” link in the menu.

Glow:
The glowstick capsules inside of the straws come in many different, neon-like colors and are usually about 1.5″ in length. The glow effect is activated by bending the glowstick portion of the straw.

Many manufacturers claim that the glowsticks inside of the straws will retain their glow for 8+ hours, however consumers should check packaging to verify duration.

Other Variants:
While glow straws containing an inner glow capsule tend to be most common, other variants include translucent straws with a “glow in the dark” coating.
